How it works

Even pacing assigns the same time per unit of distance. In the negative-split option, the second half of the distance takes 2% less time than the first half. Both halves still add up to your target finish time.

Try this example

A 50-minute 10K at even pace has ten 5-minute kilometer splits. With the 2% negative-split option, the first 5K takes about 25:15 and the second about 24:45. This is an illustration of pacing, not a recommendation for every race.

Common questions

What does negative split mean here?

The second half of the distance takes less time than the first. The 2% setting refers to the difference between the two half times, not a 2% reduction from your average pace.

Why is the last split shorter?

A half marathon is 21.0975 km and a marathon is 42.195 km. The table includes the remaining distance so that the last elapsed time matches the requested finish time.
